Atlassian Williams F1 Team is proud to announce that 1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill is returning to the team as an Official Ambassador, rejoining the squad in the 30th anniversary year of his iconic title victory.
One of the most recognisable figures in British motorsport, Damon played a pivotal role in a hugely successful period in Williams’ history. After serving two years as the team’s test and reserve driver, Damon was promoted to a race seat in 1993 and took a maiden Grand Prix victory in Hungary that year.
He led the team to the Constructors’ Championship in 1994, narrowly missing out on the Drivers’ title in an infamous last-race incident with Michael Schumacher. And in 1996 he took eight wins to clinch the Drivers’ Championship with an emotional final-race victory in Japan, becoming the first son of an F1 World Champion to claim the title himself.
In four seasons racing with Williams, Damon took 21 Grand Prix victories, 20 Pole Positions and 19 fastest laps and won the hearts of British sports fans – twice being voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Damon joins the ranks of a strong Ambassador line-up for the team in 2026. His 1996 Williams teammate Jacques Villeneuve – who went on to take the 1997 Drivers’ Championship – returns for a second season. And the line-up is completed by three-time W Series champion, Indy NXT race winner, and three-time LMP2 race winner, Jamie Chadwick. Jamie will also operate as an adviser for our newest F1 Academy recruit, helping Jade Jacquet with support and development as she takes on her first year in the Academy.
Damon Hill, Official Ambassador:
“Williams is truly a special place for me and where some of the defining moments of my career took place. I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of this sport and to have achieved what I did, and returning as an Ambassador is a real privilege. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the team’s history and help to support its legacy and future.”
James Vowles, Team Principal:
“It’s an honour to welcome Damon back to Atlassian Williams F1 Team as an Ambassador. Few individuals represent this team quite like him. Damon played a defining role in one of the most successful eras in our history, becoming a World Champion with Williams and leaving a legacy that continues to inspire the team today. We’re also delighted that Jamie Chadwick and Jacques Villeneuve will continue with us as Ambassadors. Together, they form an impressive line-up that reflects everything Williams stands for: our history, our commitment to opening doors and developing talent, and our ambition to compete at the very highest level again. Having figures like them representing Williams as we move forward is something we’re immensely proud of.”
