Get the inside scoop on Williams’ record at Interlagos

We’re back in Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix where we’ll compete in the final Formula One Sprint weekend of the season.
To get you up to speed with all things Interlagos, here are six statistics you can impress your F1 friends and family with.

1.191

Williams hold the record for the largest pole margin ever recorded on the modern Interlagos layout. Nigel Mansell piloted the active suspension FW14B to pole position, 1.191s ahead of teammate Riccardo Patrese. The nearest non-Williams was 2.199s behind!

8

We have taken eight pole positions at Interlagos, including a run of six in a row from 1992 to 1997. Only McLaren (9) have more in the circuit’s history.

2

Nicholas Latifi out-qualified his 2021 teammate George Russell twice on the same weekend at last year’s São Paulo GP. After outpacing him in the conventional qualifying session, Nicky then beat George in sprint qualifying by just under one second.

28

Raceday marks the anniversary of Nigel Mansell’s 28th and final Grand Prix victory for the Williams team at the 1994 Australian Grand Prix, a team record that he still holds. Nigel also remains the only over-40 driver to win an F1 race since 1970!

223.976

Sergey Sirotkin’s only season in Formula 1 was spent with us in 2018, but during that year he set the fastest-ever lap by a Williams at the Interlagos circuit, clocking a 1:09.259 during qualifying, at an average speed of 223.976 km/h.

2.38

Our mechanics are showing off their consistency at pit stops this season. Both Alex Albon and Nicky’s fastest pit stops of the year so far clocked in at an identical 2.38s. Alex’s quickest pit stop came during the Canadian GP, which was enough to win the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award. That time was equalled by Nicky at the subsequent Austrian GP.
