Our 21-year-old American will drive in FP1 at the United States Grand Prix

Williams Academy driver Logan Sargeant will get behind the wheel of our FW44 during the first Free Practice session of the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix 2022.
In doing so, the 21-year-old Formula 2 driver will become the first American to feature on track in an F1 weekend since 2015.
The opportunity follows an impressive start to his rookie season in F2, achieving two wins and a further two podiums alongside two pole positions, placing the Floridian third in the standings heading into the summer break.
“I’m super excited to be given this opportunity to drive my first Free Practice in Austin,” Logan revealed, continuing: “To be given the chance at the US Grand Prix is something extremely special to me.
“A massive thank you to Williams for putting the trust and belief in me to do a good job. The goal for me will be to learn as much as possible in the new generation of cars.
“I’m looking forward to making the most of this experience and really enjoying it.”
WATCH: Logan’s career achievements so far
Sven Smeets, our Sporting Director, added: “Logan has demonstrated a great level of ability and maturity so far this season through his accomplishments both on and off the track.
“He’s delivered race winning performances in Formula 2 matched by his hard work during simulator sessions.
“It felt only right to reward these achievements with the opportunity for him to take part in a Free Practice session at Austin.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel of the FW44 and how his performance and feedback help the team’s preparations for the race in Austin.”
The American driver will take over Nicholas Latifi’s FW44 for the 60-minute session which will see him tasked with getting the car set up for the remainder of the weekend and gaining crucial data. His outing will also fulfil the second and final mandated young driver session this season for the team.
We can’t wait to see the home support for Logan when we arrive at Circuit of the Americas on Friday 21 October 2022 – if you want to learn more about Logan, you can get up to speed on his career to date by reading this in-depth profile.
