Pit Wall Predictions, presented by Gulf, looks a little different this weekend.
For the Austrian Grand Prix, your picks lock in before qualifying begins, meaning this time around it's all about trusting the data from practice and making your best guess before the grid is set.
And based on what we've seen so far, it could be a tricky one for Atlassian Williams F1 Team. Across the three practice sessions, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz have consistently been circulating around the P16-P18 range, suggesting we may have our work cut out for us at the Red Bull Ring.
Still, Austria is a short lap where small margins can quickly swing things, and strategy can make all the difference.
Here’s what our strategist is locking in for Round 8 of the 2026 season.
Don’t forget, with our new-for-2026 feature, you can now join or create a public or private group with friends to truly earn the bragging rights.

The Strategist’s Predictions – Austrian GP
Q1: Where will our best-qualifying Williams driver start on the grid?
Strategist's Pick: P11-P15
Alex secured P12 here last year, and while practice pace has looked tricky so far, The Strategist is backing one of our cars to sneak into Q2 and sit in that upper midfield bracket.
Q2: What will be the gap in lap time between Alex and Carlos's final qualifying laps?
Strategist's Pick: 0.100-0.199s
The pair were closely matched in FP3, and with such a short lap in Austria, even a tenth can make a big difference. The Strategist expects it to be tight.
Q3: How many drivers will have their lap time deleted in qualifying?
Strategist's Pick: 5+ drivers
Track limits always play a huge role in Austria. Three drivers lost lap times here last year, and The Strategist is expecting even more this time around.
Q4: On which lap will Alex make his first stop?
Strategist's Pick: Lap 11-20
Alex stopped on Lap 13 in last year's race, and with the Red Bull Ring often lending itself to aggressive early stops, The Strategist sees a similar pattern.
Q5: On which lap will Carlos make his first stop?
Strategist's Pick: Lap 11-20
Carlos never got the chance to race here last year, but The Strategist expects him to follow a similar early-stop window if he can stay in the fight.
Q6: What will Alex’s longest stint on the same set of tyres be?
Strategist's Pick: 21-30 laps
Alex's race ended early in 2025, but based on likely strategy this year, the strategist expects his middle stint to be the longest.
Q7: What will Carlos’ longest stint on the same set of tyres be?
Strategist's Pick: 21-30 laps
With no race data from Carlos in Austria last year, this one is based on what we’ve learned from the weekend so far.
Q8: Where will the leading Williams driver finish the race?
Strategist's Pick: P11-P15
The Strategist is keeping things realistic after a difficult practice showing, but knows Austria often throws up opportunities. Points, of course, remains the aim and nobody would mind being wrong on this one.
Lock in your picks for Austria and see if you can outscore The Strategist in the eighth round of 2026.
