As the NFL crowns its Super Bowl champions this weekend, we’re taking a look back at moments when success on America’s biggest sporting stage lined up perfectly with our own triumph in Formula 1.
Join us as we discover which teams lifted the Lombardi Trophy the same year Atlassian Williams F1 Team would go on to claim the FIA Formula One World Constructors’ Championship. 
1980
Super Bowl XIV – Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed their third Super Bowl title in January 1980, defeating the Los Angeles Rams 31–19 at the Rose Bowl in front of a record crowd of 103,985.
Later that year, Williams would make history of its own. Alan Jones delivered our first Drivers’ Championship, whilst we also secured our maiden Constructors’ title.

1981
Super Bowl XV – Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders lifted the Lombardi Trophy after a 27–10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, becoming the first wildcard team to win the Super Bowl.
In Formula 1, Williams followed up its breakthrough season by successfully defending the Constructors’ Championship, with Carlos Reutemann narrowly missing out on the Drivers’ title in a dramatic finale.

1986
Super Bowl XX – Chicago Bears
Considered one of the most dominant teams in NFL history, the 85/86 Chicago Bears cruised to a 46–10 win over the New England Patriots.
That same year, Williams returned to the top of the Constructors’ standings, with Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet forming one of the strongest driver pairings on the grid during a fiercely competitive season.

1987
Super Bowl XXI – New York Giants
The New York Giants claimed their first Super Bowl title with a 39–20 win over the Denver Broncos.
Williams matched that success by securing back-to-back Constructors’ Championships, while Nelson Piquet claimed the Drivers’ title, cementing the team’s position as the benchmark in Formula 1.

1992
Super Bowl XXVI – Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins enjoyed a stellar Super Bowl XXVI, defeating the Buffalo Bills 37–24 to cap a remarkable season.
In F1, Williams delivered one of the most commanding campaigns in the sport’s history. Nigel Mansell wrapped up the Drivers’ Championship early, as Williams cruised to the Constructors’ title with the FW14B.

1993
Super Bowl XXVII – Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys began their 1990s dynasty with a 52–17 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Williams continued its own era of dominance, retaining the Constructors’ Championship as Alain Prost returned to Formula 1 and secured his fourth Drivers’ title.

1994
Super Bowl XXVIII – Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys went back-to-back with a 30–13 win over the Buffalo Bills in Atlanta.
It was a season of triumph and tragedy in Formula 1. Williams claimed the Constructors’ Championship once again, with Damon Hill pushing the title fight to the final race in a year that would forever shape the sport.

1996
Super Bowl XXX – Dallas Cowboys
Dallas secured a third Super Bowl in four years, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27–17.
On track, Williams returned to dominant form. Damon Hill won the Drivers’ Championship, while Williams comfortably claimed the Constructors’ title with one of the most successful cars of the era.

1997
Super Bowl XXXI – Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers lifted the Lombardi Trophy after a 35–21 victory over the New England Patriots.
Later that year, Williams completed its ninth Constructors’ Championship, as Jacques Villeneuve claimed the Drivers’ title in a thrilling finale.
