It has been a difficult United States Grand Prix weekend for the team, and qualifying proved another tough test with both cars out in Q1.
Our chances of making it through the opening phase looked slim after three hours of practice that saw a best position of P19 around Circuit of the Americas, with some of that running spent with one eye on developing for 2027.
Alex and Carlos headed out together for Q1 on fresh softs. Alex was first on the board with a 1:37.952, before Carlos posted a 1:37.728, 0.224s quicker.
Both cars then peeled into the pits for fresh tyres and a pit adjustment, immediately returning to the circuit for their second push laps. Alex improved to a 1:37.230 and Carlos followed with a 1:36.770, leaving Carlos P16 and Alex P19 with all 22 cars having set a time.
With another set of fresh softs fitted, the pair returned for one final Q1 push. Alex lost time in the final sector but set a 1:36.957, whilst Carlos ran wide at T19 and couldn’t improve on his best.
With the cut-off set at 1:36.240, Carlos missed out by 0.530s and Alex by 0.717s and both cars were out in Q1.
Penalties for drivers ahead means Carlos will line up P17 and Alex P18 on race day here in Austin.
