Music plays an important role in Alex Albon’s race weekend routine, helping him switch off from the hustle and bustle of the paddock and find his focus before getting behind the wheel.
Alex recently sat down with Rolling Stone UK as part of its Playlist Picks series, revealing five songs that feature on his go-to ‘Chill’ playlist and sharing why each one has earned a place in his rotation.
There’s one common theme throughout Alex’s five selections – it’s all music that helps him relax, reset and zone out.
So, what’s on the playlist?
Chance Peña – ‘The Mountain Is You’
First up is Chance Peña’s ‘The Mountain Is You’, a track Alex returns to regularly, particularly before a session or when he has some downtime.
He likes the way the song gradually builds, starting quietly before opening up, making it a perfect fit for his pre-session chill playlist.
“It builds slowly, starts quiet and then opens up, which is good for winding down.”
Hans Williams – ‘Skin’
Next is Hans Williams’ ‘Skin’, which Alex describes as soft without being boring.
The track provides another laid-back option for his playlist, with Alex enjoying its authentic feel before its later build up.
“Even though it starts soft but ends up building into something more emotional.”

Jonah Kagen – ‘God Needs the Devil’
Jonah Kagen brings something slightly heavier to Alex’s picks with ‘God Needs the Devil’.
Alex discovered the track during a race weekend when he was looking for something different from his usual listening.
Now, it might not be the most obvious choice for a ‘Chill’ playlist, but Alex likes the honesty of the track and its lyrics.
Lewis Capaldi – ‘Forget Me’
There had to be a place for Lewis Capaldi on Alex’s list. The Scottish artist, himself a big Formula 1 fan, has produced any number of meaningful songs over the past few years.
‘Forget Me’ offers a more upbeat feel, and with a love of karaoke thrown into the mix, Capaldi was always likely to feature.
“Had to have Lewis on here somewhere, he’s one of my go-tos for karaoke and just generally.”
Alex told Rolling Stone UK that he uses music as "a good re-centering point”
Noah Kahan – ‘End of August’
Rounding out Alex’s five picks is Noah Kahan’s ‘End of August’ – a song he describes as a classic comfort track.
The nostalgic, end-of-summer feeling is exactly what Alex looks for when he wants to switch off from the noise that being a Formula 1 driver brings.
“That’s exactly what I want from music most of the time, I just like to zone out with easy listening.”
