Luke Browning’s Super Formula journey officially begins this weekend, as the Atlassian Williams F1 Team Reserve Driver lines up for his debut in Japan.

The 24-year-old Brit will compete with Kondo Racing, taking on a fresh challenge alongside his reserve duties that have already seen him present at every Formula 1 weekend so far this season.

After finishing fourth in his first full Formula 2 campaign last year, Luke now steps into one of the most competitive single-seater championships outside of Formula 1. While he gained valuable experience during the 2025 post-season test and this year’s pre-season running, this weekend marks the first time it all counts.

The 2026 Super Formula season gets underway at Mobility Resort Motegi, with Rounds 1 and 2 taking place across the weekend. Drivers will face two qualifying sessions and two races in quick succession.

Each day follows a similar structure, with qualifying in the morning setting the grid before racing gets underway later in the afternoon.

Motegi presents a unique challenge, particularly for drivers new to the category, with the circuit rewarding precision, consistency and control.

While results are always the target, this weekend represents an important opportunity for Luke to adapt to a new car, a new championship and an entirely different racing environment.

Track action begins with Free Practice 1 and 2 on Friday, before Qualifying 1 and Race 1 on Saturday. Luke’s weekend concludes on Sunday with Qualifying 2 and Race 2.
