Jenson Button to race in NASCAR Cup Series

Jenson Button, Williams Racing Brand Ambassador, will compete in three NASCAR Cup Series meetings in 2023.

The 2009 Formula 1 World Champion makes his debut for Rick Ware Racing later this month at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas.

His further two appearances will come at the inaugural Chicago Street Race in early July and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in mid-August.

JB, who made his F1 debut with Williams Racing 23 years ago this week, is looking forward to his first taste of stock car racing, telling The Associated Press: “A lot of people think I’m crazy for doing this because it’s so different, but that’s why I love the challenge of it.

“For me, it’s not about how quick the car is, it’s about how close the racing can be. In the Cup Series, the racing is awesome.

“It’s definitely going to be a shock to the system, but a toe in the water, so to speak, and hopefully help me be more competitive the next time I do it.”

This won’t be the only NASCAR action our Brand Ambassador is set for this year, with Jenson named as one of the drivers for NASCAR’s special entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
