As the 2026 season pauses for a rare extended break, Atlassian Williams F1 Team continues to make headlines – from long-term technical investment to short-term performance gains, and from driver insights to iconic off-track appearances.
Here’s what the media have been saying over the past week…
Building beyond the car
A key focus for Williams’ long-term future was highlighted by The Race, with Jon Noble taking a closer look at Dan Milner’s arrival from Mercedes.
Rather than being tied to a specific car project, Milner’s role is deliberately broader – heading up a new vehicle technology work stream that operates alongside the team’s main programmes. While others focus on the FW48 and beyond, his remit is to develop foundational technologies that can be introduced when ready.

It’s a strategic move, allowing Williams to think beyond individual car cycles and invest in innovations that can deliver gains over a longer horizon.
Maximising the moment
With a five-week gap in the calendar, The Athletic detailed how we are using the time to regroup, analyse and push forward.
For us, that means diving into data, refining operations and accelerating development. The focus is clear: reduce weight, increase downforce, and address long-standing balance limitations.
“I expect that the team, we will do a big push over that month to come up with something for Miami that is a good step forward,” Carlos Sainz said during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
“Obviously, we know we have a lot of weight to take out of the car. We have a lot of downforce to add. It will be how much we are able to do for Miami (that matters).”
Alongside performance gains, the team continues to investigate areas such as inside front grip – with weight reduction seen as the most immediate opportunity to unlock lap time.

Instinct vs Precision
Carlos Sainz also offered a fascinating insight into the demands of driving the current generation of cars, as covered by PlanetF1.
“Honestly, my group of engineers and myself, we’ve done a very good job over the winter to understand it, and I feel like we’re doing a very good job on understanding it and driving it,” he explained.
“And in that sense, I think I’m 90, 95 per cent close to understanding everything.”
But even with that understanding, the challenge remains in the heat of the moment.
“There’s definitely surprises that come now and then, but I feel like I’ve been not very surprised by it, given how new it is. It’s more how disciplined you want to be with your driving.
“So it’s how your natural instinct, or animal instinct, kicks in in a Q2 lap or a Q3 lap… how much you’re gonna upset the system, and the system is gonna backfire on you.
“And yeah, I think we all understand this, it just goes against our natural instinct.”
Goodwood calling
Off track, anticipation is building for the summer, with multiple outlets – including Auto Hebdo – covering Williams’ return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This year’s line-up brings together 1996 World Champion Damon Hill, Team Principal James Vowles, reserve driver Luke Browning and Brand Ambassador Jamie Chadwick – all set to take to the hill in the iconic FW18.
It marks another chapter in Williams’ strong relationship with the event, following last year’s appearance with the championship-winning FW14B. This time, it’s Hill returning to the very car that secured his title – a fitting tribute to one of the team’s most celebrated eras.
Leading the way
Elsewhere, James Vowles stepped away from the pit wall to join Frankie Langan of IntoPadel for an in-depth conversation on leadership, pressure and building a winning culture.
Touching on everything from high-performance environments to long-term vision, the discussion offers a deeper look into the mindset driving Williams forward – both on and off the track.
