There’s just over a week to go until Atlassian Williams Racing return to action — and the team are fully focused on producing a positive performance at the São Paulo Grand Prix.
Last weekend’s stint in Mexico City proved to be a frustrating outing for Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, with neither driver able to add to their respective tallies for 2025.
But the upcoming visit to Interlagos offers an opportunity to put that right, as we aim for a strong finish to what has been a season packed full of highs.
With the build up to Round 21 continuing apace, here’s how the media have been covering Williams over the past few days…
Reflections on Mexico
James Vowles broke down the challenges we faced at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez
after racing concluded — and
Motorsport.com carried quotes from our Team Principal earlier this week.
“The positive news is the car was very fast, but we were unable to use it,” he reflected.
“In the case of Carlos, the race was over after Turn 1 and the damage resulted in both a flat spot but also damage to our wheel speed sensors, which are critical for the pit speed limiter.
“The net result is that we had to box earlier as the vibrations were significant, putting us on a two stop, which led to us going 0.2 kilometres an hour over the pit speed limit, and receiving the five-second penalty.
“When we came in for the second stop, we tried controlling it manually at 70 kilometres an hour, and on exit, Carlos still went slightly over the pit speed limiter, resulting in a drive through penalty, which we completed.
“Without the drive through penalty, and even with all the other elements, Carlos was still fighting for a point today, which is very impressive.
“With Alex, we didn’t get it right across the board, from communication, to start tyre, to how we optimised his performance. This is a blip in what has been a strong season, so let’s finish strong across the next four events.”
Formula1.com also covered the Mexico City GP with quotes from Alex and Carlos, noting that Williams didn’t lose any ground in the Constructors' Standings, despite a difficult weekend.

Williams Rising
Talking of Williams’ current position of fifth in the Championship,
Racecar Engineering have put our 2025 performance under the microscope — as well as discussing the team’s hopes of success in 2026 — in their latest issue.
The magazine’s feature ‘Williams Rising’ focuses on our best season in a number of years after securing 346 points to date, heading into next week’s São Paulo GP.
Chief Race Engineer Paul Williams provides details about the FW47’s development in the piece, saying:
“Generally the focus on this year’s car has been total load characteristics, to try and improve our combined entry characteristics and our response in terms of yaw and certain wind behaviours.
“The other area we struggled with at the start of the FW46 was weight. So there was a clear focus from the team on mass saving, with this year’s car running pretty much on weight all year.”
F1 Fever in Latin America
James Vowles spoke exclusively to Latin American publication
Bloomberg Línea, to discuss the potential of Formula 1 in the region.
The 46-year-old reflected on the burgeoning interest in F1 — in part because of Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, Brazil’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Spanish speaking racers like Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso.
And Williams’ strong connection to Latin America was referenced, too, with Brazilians Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet, and Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya having raced for the team.
But, perhaps most notably, James suggested that he would like to see the return of the Argentine Grand Prix, if the right facility and appropriate level of investment can be found.
Game Changers!
On a lighter note, Atlassian Williams Racing were the subject of children’s entertainment show ‘Nickelodeon Game Changers’ this week!
The comprehensive episode features contributions from James, Alex and Carlos, No.1 Mechanic Cleo Collins and Senior Experience Manager Tom Iverson.
Luke Browning, Jamie Chadwick and Lia Block get involved, too, in a show that includes plenty of animations, Q&As and behind-the-scenes footage.
