National STEM Day is a powerful reminder of how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics shape not only our sport, but the future.
Whether students see themselves as engineers, mathematicians, or simulation experts (or even if they haven’t imagined a career in our sport), our STEM programmes can help them to understand and get excited about the careers and subjects available to them.
That’s crucial if we want to develop and inspire the next generation of talent.
A YEAR OF IMPACT
This year, our free STEM Experience Days, hosted at our headquarters in Grove, welcomed over 10,000 students, offering hands on activities, behind the scenes insights and real-world applications of STEM that we encounter every day in Formula 1. The programme has had a meaningful impact; so far in 2025:
Over 10,000 students have visited the Williams STEM Experience from over 300 schools across the UK
87% of students left more interested in STEM careers and subjects
“It showed me a new pathway into a STEM career that I had never considered before and made it seem achievable.” - Year 9 Student
“What stood out most was how clearly the experience linked classroom learning to real-world careers, showing students that their skills in maths, science, and technology could lead to amazing futures in industries like motorsport.” - Year 7 Senior Leader
These results reflect the enthusiasm and engagement that we have seen from both students and educators alike. More importantly, they show how powerful hands-on STEM experiences can be in shaping young minds.
WHY STEM MATTERS TO ATLASSIAN WILLIAMS RACING
STEM is the heartbeat of Formula 1. But for us, it’s also a gateway to opportunity. We believe in making STEM accessible, exciting, and inclusive - because the next generation of engineers, scientists and technologists will shape not just our sport, but our wider world.
“Developing bright young minds has always been part of our DNA at Atlassian Williams Racing, and it’s central to our ambition of winning World Championships again.” - James Vowles, Team Principal
That’s why our investment in the next generation goes beyond our STEM days.
Today, more than 10% of our workforce are in early careers programmes like industrial placements, apprenticeships, or graduate schemes. Those young people are making a real impact from Day 1 – playing a key role in our performance and innovation, as we fight our way back to the front of the grid.
